The 13-inch MacBook Pro continues to offer the bare minimum of ports with a headset jack on the right side and a pair of Thunderbolt ports. In short, the new MacBook Pro is everything Apple said and more. If that’s not enough, paired with Big Sur, you get blistering webpage load times and a better webcam experience –– all thanks to Apple Silicon. But still, the MacBook Pro 13-inch M1 ($1,899 reviewed, $1,299 starting) delivers impressive performance and has the longest battery life I’ve seen on a Mac. Well I’m here to tell you that the hype train is well-founded, except maybe for that last one. And Apple wasn’t shy about touting all the implications with grandiose and seemingly unheard of claims that these new MacBooks would deliver 3.5x the CPU performance, 6x faster GPU performance and outperform 98% of PC laptops on the market. So what’s behind the monumental change? Apple’s new M1 processor, the much ballyhooed component that signals the company’s break from Intel in favor of custom silicon. Unfortunately, it also upgraded the price, making it one of the more expensive MacBook Pros you could lay your hands on.No, it doesn’t look like it, but this MacBook marks a new chapter in Apple computing, and computers as a whole. It offered more power to the point that Apple had to upgrade its cooling system as well.
That wasn't the only thing going for the latest MacBook Pros, of course. Apple's previous responses only put a band-aid on the problem and it was only until the 16-inch MacBook Pro last November that the butterfly keyboard was finally put to rest. It introduced new butterfly switches that ended up ruining the entire experience for users, not to mention landing Apple in a few lawsuits. The MacBook Pros entered a rough patch in the past two years thanks to Apple's obsession with thinness. Those who have held off buying one, however, may now have a bit of a reprieve now that Apple is selling refurbished MacBooks just three months after they first launched. The only drawback, however, was the price that started at $2,400. It finally returns the old reliable scissors switches under the new Magic Keyboard moniker and introduced a new 16-inch sweetspot between existing MacBook Pro sizes.
The new 16-inch MacBOok Pro is the answer to every MacBook Pro owner's prayer in almost all ways but one.
